The author of Just Another Quiet Little City, J.S. Frankel, is here with us today. Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
I started wrting very late–at the age of forty-eight–got published a year later, and I’m still writing. My son, who was around eleven at the time, saw a cartoon and mentioned something about talking trees, and it gave me the idea for my first novel, The Tower. That started it all off!
Awe, talking trees, oh how they’re dear friends of mine. So, how did you go about getting published?
I went to the digital and print publishers, and eventually one of them took a chance on me. I haven’t stopped since.
Sounds like the writing bug bit you. 😉 What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
I write late at night when my wife and children are asleep. I always write at home, but scribble ideas down during the day.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
I work as an ESL teacher in Osaka. Downtime consists of writing, reading, and watching movies. I work out as well, just to keep in decent shape.
What’s your all time favorite animal? It can be mythical.
Real animal: cats. Mythical animal: unicorn
Unicorns are becoming a common theme here. 🙂 Do you have a favorite myth? If so, tell us about it!
I love the ancient Greek myths. They’ve inspired me a lot. Greek myths spoke of larger than life characters with all the tics and quirks of humanity. They showed the folly of mankind, yet uplifted the spirit of mankind in doing so. If it weren’t for those myths, I don’t think I’d be writing now.
Yay! A fellow Greek nut! As someone who is currently taking a class based completely on Greek and Roman art, that’s a compliment. 😉 Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?

Sound advice, that’s how you found me! Tell us about your next book project.
I write YA Fantasy for the most part. My current novel is tentatively entitled ‘The Reunion’, about a group of reluctant superheroes who don’t like their powers, don’t want them, and are pursued by the government. Action and a love story, all in one!
Last question of the day before you go, what are you currently reading?
My manuscript! It takes a lot of editing!
That it does! Thank you for stopping by!
